HERALD CHARITY FOUNDATION
Community Assistance Service
Annual Activity Report 2024
During 2024, a total of 14 people were assisted each month.
I. Information about the assistance provided:
Home visits – Visits and activities at the beneficiaries’ homes were the most important activities. Our relationship with the elderly women developed more and more. In the case of those who could no longer manage to carry out certain basic activities, the visits were more frequent. The rest were short visits to supply food and medicine. The beneficiaries who managed to do better, being healthier and thus more mobile than those in the first category, were visited once a week. All the seniors had daily or weekly telephone conversations with the FCH staff.
Counseling and emotional support – Most of our beneficiaries have fears, thoughts of worry, loneliness, and their health is either stationary or deteriorating. Almost all of them are gripped by painful memories from the past or certain regrets. For the elderly, all of this, plus self-pity, leads to depressive states. In addition, the fact that they are powerless in many ways highlights the need to allocate time to counseling and listening. During the visits and discussions, we noticed these states, listening to what the beneficiaries wanted to share. Thus, we encouraged them by looking for solutions together with them.
Monthly food package – shopping was carried out for all 14 assisted elderly women, consisting of food products (meat, dairy products, cheese, eggs, pasta, canned goods and other non-perishable foods), personal hygiene products, detergents. These were distributed to the beneficiaries’ homes, with the foundation’s vehicle. Outdoor recreational activities – occasional outings, shopping trips or other visits were carried out upon request.
Socializing and leisure activities – celebrating birthdays, March 8, Easter and Christmas as well as Seniors’ Day. – We celebrated each beneficiary’s birthday at their home, offering them gifts, flowers and other small gifts from the foundation. In March, we celebrated March 8 at each beneficiary’s home by giving them a generous gift and spending time with each one, showing them that they are precious. On the occasion of Easter and Christmas, we did not organize events at the foundation’s headquarters due to the fact that most of them were unable to travel during this period. Instead, we celebrated at their homes, bringing them gifts and food packages. For Christmas, we had very generous sponsors. A team of sponsors cooked stuffed cabbage rolls and cakes, others raised money with which we bought slippers for each one. We also organized a group of carolers who reminded us of the birth of the Savior. We also received from the Food Bank, products donated by citizens in the Lidl store. Their joy was complete!!! On the occasion of October 1st, we went out with the mobile beneficiaries to Roata Faget where we had lunch and celebrated the Day of the Elderly. This time they also received a gift. But the fact that we went out to the restaurant was a unique event for them. All of this contributed to increasing the sense of belonging and well-being, banishing (at least for a while) loneliness and sadness.
Accompanying the beneficiaries to the doctor and other institutions – We offered the beneficiaries who had emergencies and not only, the opportunity to be examined by specialized doctors, to have the correct treatment for treating certain conditions, or to relieve physical pain. They were transported by the foundation’s car where necessary, or by taxi. Hospital admissions, discharges to/from the hospital, with visits – this service was offered whenever necessary for Herald beneficiaries.
Weekly shopping – was carried out during weekly visits by the employed staff. Since the monthly food package is usually offered to beneficiaries at the end of the month, other needs also arise during the month. Thus, occasional shopping includes bread, milk, vegetables, fruits and other foods that they need.
Occasional cooking – After a certain age, the ability to handle cooking objects, pick up ingredients, or clean the necessary vegetables is greatly affected, so cooking help was provided for people who had this need during the period when they could be visited. Housekeeping for people who were immobilized or with problems – This service was implemented regularly where needed.
Bill payment – was carried out monthly for elderly women who can no longer move.
Material aid – The elderly received food, clothing, shoes, medicines, diapers for urinary incontinence, hygiene products (shampoo, soap, toothpaste, etc.), household items, cleaning products, etc. (depending on the needs of the assisted persons and the possibilities of the foundation).
Financial aid – cash aid was also provided for food, detergents and medicines. Financial resources were also spent on: -transportation of food packages to the home -transportation of the elderly to the doctor, clinics, foundation and other institutions -transportation for weekly visits -consumables -group meetings and other activities
